Objective
Google created a festive digital experience to engage families during the December holiday season. Using the universal appeal of Santa Claus as a cultural entry point, Google built an interactive platform designed to encourage daily return visits while subtly introducing geographic knowledge, internet concepts, and Google services to children and families.
Solution
The 2013 Santa Tracker featured an interactive advent calendar called Santa's Village, which unlocked new mini-games, videos, and seasonal activities every day throughout December. The experience included multiple fully-fledged games such as a matching game where players compete against Santa with scoring systems and multiple difficulty levels. The project leveraged Google's advanced web technologies including Web Components (Polymer framework), Web Animations API, Google Street View Panorama integration, and Text-to-Speech capabilities. An updated Android app was released on December 11. The experience combined gaming mechanics with educational content about geography and internet technology.
