Objective

Disney Channel used the game to promote its original movie "Descendants" to its kid and teen audience, keeping fans on the Disney Channel site between broadcasts. Launched ahead of the film's TV premiere, it was the first "Descendants" game on the site, giving fans a way to step into the Isle of the Lost and its characters rather than just watch trailers.

Solution

Players pick a runner — starting with Mal, with Jay, Evie, and Carlos unlocked as they level up — and race down the crumbling streets of the Isle of the Lost. On the run, they jump gaps, slide under low obstacles, smash through barriers, flip through the air, and grind along wires, racking up points for every trick. Coins collected along the way go into a shop where players spend them on ability upgrades before heading back out for another run. The game works right in the browser on desktop or phone, and on iOS it prompts players to add it to their home screen for a full-screen play session.

How it plays

8 steps
  1. 1

On mobile, the game suggests adding it to the home screen for full-screen play, with an option to dismiss and play in-browser instead. A title screen follows, with a play button, a sound toggle, and access to the upgrade shop.

  2. 2

Players pick a runner from the Isle of the Lost cast; only Mal is available at the start, with Jay, Evie, and Carlos unlocking as the player reaches later levels.

  3. 3

The chosen character auto-runs through a side-scrolling street level. Players jump to clear gaps and land on platforms, and slide to duck under low obstacles or smash through breakable ones for points.

  4. 4

Holding the jump input triggers a mid-air flip that carries the runner further and banks trick points, ending when the input is released. Grinding along overhead wires similarly racks up bonus points while it lasts.

  5. 5

Coins are scattered along the route for players to collect on the run, and a magnet pickup temporarily pulls nearby coins in automatically.

  6. 6

A heads-up display tracks distance run, coins collected, and tricks performed, alongside pause and sound controls.

  7. 7

A run ends when the runner falls into a gap or hits an obstacle. The final score combines distance, coins, and trick bonuses.

  8. 8

Completing level challenges, such as running a set distance or crashing a set number of times, advances progress and unlocks new playable heroes, each with a distinct ability. Coins earned across runs buy shop upgrades to abilities like magnet duration or flip speed, with up to four upgrades active at once.
