Objective
Comcast Business, a telecom infrastructure provider, sought to strengthen its position as a technology partner for enterprise customers at THE PLAYERS Championship. The objective was to transform passive spectating into an interactive, tech-enabled experience that would demonstrate the company's capabilities in real-time data processing, AI, and IoT across a high-profile sporting event.
Solution
Game the Green is a real-time predictive game deployed at TPC Sawgrass's iconic 17th hole (Island Green) during THE PLAYERS Championship. Fans use a web-based application to predict shot outcomes—whether balls land on the green, in water, or rough—while watching live play. The experience integrates machine learning models trained on 20 years of PGA TOUR data, hyper-localized IoT weather sensors, topographic course visualization, and live ball-tracking technology. Competitive in-game leaderboards reward top performers with prizes including all-expenses-paid trips to TPC Sawgrass. The application was custom-built by engineers across Comcast and Sky.
Results
The campaign generated 7,200+ predictions across 128+ hours of total gameplay, with an average session duration of 16 minutes. The experience earned 69 million+ earned-media impressions. ComcastBusiness.com traffic increased 5x during the tournament, and enterprise leads attributed to THE PLAYERS Championship grew 3.2x year-over-year. The campaign earned Gold awards at The Drum Awards (Experiential Digital and Experiential Sports categories) and a Silver award at the 2025 Clio Sports Awards (Digital/Mobile Fan Engagement).
