Objective

Against Malaria Foundation partnered with Emmy-winning production company Psyop to combat malaria through innovative digital storytelling. The campaign aimed to raise awareness about malaria transmission and generate support for prevention efforts by engaging audiences through interactive entertainment rather than traditional PSA formats.

Solution

Psyop developed 'Nightmare: Malaria,' an original iOS and Android mobile game designed as their first gaming venture. Players navigate an immersive fever-dream through 18 levels inside the bloodstream of a girl infected with malaria, avoiding lethal mosquitoes while collecting teddy bear tokens as collectibles. The game featured voice talent from Susan Sarandon and original music by Q Department. Launched on Giving Tuesday (December 3, 2013), the game combined educational gameplay with emotional narrative to create a visceral understanding of malaria's impact.
