Objective

Mailchimp wanted a fun, low-pressure way to put its new Postcards feature — a summer 2018 beta extending email marketing into printed direct mail — in front of small-business customers. The brief, in the team's own words, was to help promote the new postcards beta. It also fit the brand's broader pitch on its games hub: small-business owners grind every day for their dream and deserve a short break.

Solution

You play Freddie von Chimpenhamer IV, the Mailchimp mascot, before he inherited the family business — running his first day on a postcard delivery route. On desktop the game loads straight in the browser at posthaste.mailchimp.com; on mobile you land on a splash screen with the trailer and links to the App Store and Google Play. Steering along the street, you flick postcards onto porches and mailboxes as they scroll past, dodging obstacles Paperboy-style, with each level graded on how many cards you land. A run ends when you wipe out or clear the route, dropping you back to try for a better score.

The launch trailer has drawn 4,451 views on Mailchimp's YouTube channel.

How it plays

8 steps
  1. 1

Players open the browser game on desktop and wait through a Unity WebGL loading screen, followed by a branded Mailchimp intro screen featuring mascot Freddie.

  2. 2

On mobile devices the game does not run; instead players see a promotional splash with a trailer and store buttons, directing them to play on a desktop browser instead.

  3. 3

A comic-style title screen introduces "Young Freddie Von Chimpenheimer in Post Haste," and players press spacebar to begin.

  4. 4

A dialogue scene frames the premise: an aging boss (Freddie's grandfather) doubts Freddie is ready to take over the family delivery business and challenges him to prove himself; players click through the lines and confirm with an "I'm Ready" button to launch the run.

  5. 5

The core loop is an isometric bike ride down a continuously scrolling suburban street, with a minimal HUD tracking score and remaining mail in the top corners.

  6. 6

Players throw envelopes at houses and mailboxes along the route to score points, with successful hits and streaks adding bonus points while the limited mail supply depletes with each throw.

  7. 7

Players steer around street obstacles such as potholes, hydrants, trash cans, parked cars, and yard clutter; hitting any obstacle ends the run immediately, as there are no extra lives.

  8. 8

A results screen returns players to the boss's office showing final and top scores with a comment from the grandfather, and a "Give It Another Go!" button restarts the run directly on the street; scores persist across attempts, and the recorded session plays as one continuous route.
