- 1
The player takes on the role of a recruit at the Lynx Space Academy, assigned a moon rover and sent to complete nine zones on the lunar surface.
- 2
Zones are selected from a menu; only the first is open at the start, and each additional zone unlocks by finishing the one before it, with difficulty rising as the player advances.
- 3
Driving uses left/right arrows to steer and tilt the rover over bumps and ramps, with a boost button firing nitro for extra speed and longer jumps; reduced lunar gravity stretches jumps out, so the rover must be corrected mid-air to land on its wheels.
- 4
Hero coins are scattered along each track and banked per mission, while every zone also hides one separate LSA coin off the obvious racing line.
- 5
Each of the nine zones has its own traps and obstacles that must be steered around or jumped.
- 6
Finishing a run completes the mission, credits the Hero coins earned, and opens the next zone.
- 7
Hero coins can be spent in a garage to upgrade the current vehicle's boost, engine, suspension, and tires.
- 8
Coins can also be saved toward one of four vehicles in the lineup, ranging from the Rover Unit up to the Velocity, Assault, and Deluxe Units.
- 9
A ghost-racing mode lets the player replay a zone against a translucent recording of their own best previous run.
- 10
The game is also available as a free Android app published by Unilever Australia, with controls adapted for touch.
Objective
Lynx (Axe) was running the global Apollo Space Academy push, sending civilians to the edge of space and building a whole "leave a man, come back a hero" storyline around it. A racing game let the brand hand the astronaut fantasy to anyone who couldn't win an actual seat, turning a campaign people would otherwise just watch into one they could sit down and play.
Solution
You sign up as a recruit at the Lynx Space Academy and take a moon rover out across nine lunar zones, side-scrolling through low-gravity terrain while grabbing Hero coins and hunting down hidden LSA coins tucked into each stage. Steering is arrow keys, with spacebar firing a nitro boost when you need to clear a rough patch or claw back time. Coins earned on a run get spent back in the garage, where you upgrade boost, engine, suspension and tires, or swap between four rover models. Once you've set a personal best on a zone, you can race it again in ghost mode, chasing your own recorded run instead of a new track. The game shipped both as a browser build and as a free Android app, so a session could be a quick round in-browser or a longer play on the phone.
