Objective
To drive engagement and sales for Chris Paul's new CP3.IX signature shoe, Jordan Brand partnered with AKQA to create an interactive entertainment experience that would appeal to both basketball fans and sneaker enthusiasts. Launching in November 2015, the campaign aimed to transform the product discovery process into a gamified journey, rewarding fan engagement with exclusive access to premium customization options and limited-edition releases.
Solution
Striking Control is an 8-bit-styled mobile web game where players control Chris Paul navigating through a stormy cityscape while dodging lightning obstacles. The game features a custom soundtrack by Drake and Boi-1Da. Players progress through levels to unlock in-game achievements, which grant exclusive purchase opportunities and access to NIKEiD customization for the CP3.IX shoe. A unique Twitter integration allows fans to tweet a lightning emoji with #StrikingControl, which converts their posts into in-game lightning strikes affecting other players' gameplay. The further players progress, the more premium products they unlock to purchase through Jordan.com and NIKEiD.
