Objective

Code Computerlove created a viral game leveraging Google's search volume data to demonstrate the breadth and diversity of internet search trends. By turning Google search data into engaging gameplay, the project showcased the untapped potential of Google's data insights while generating massive organic reach and media attention.

Solution

A simple guessing game where players select which of two search terms receives higher monthly search volume on Google. The core mechanic is straightforward: two options appear, player guesses which is more frequently searched. The game was distributed across multiple platforms—web, iOS, Android, and Amazon Alexa—enabling frictionless access. Later iterations introduced themed versions (Manchester edition, SEO edition) and competitive scoring with leaderboards. No in-game purchases or virtual rewards; engagement came purely from the competitive challenge and addictive gameplay loop.

Results

The game achieved over 6 million downloads and 500 million+ total plays by March 2017. Significant YouTube amplification through influencers like PewDiePie and others sparked viral growth through word-of-mouth and social sharing, with organic momentum rather than paid media.
