Objective

Essilor launched Eyezen Challenge to educate young gamers about the impact of screen time on eye health while promoting their new Eyezen lens line designed to filter harmful blue-violet light. The campaign targeted the global eSports audience (67 million monthly players) who spend up to 7 hours daily on screens, positioning protective eyewear as essential for digital natives.

Solution

An eye-tracking browser-based game where players competed directly against Fnatic eSports star Martin 'Rekkles' Larsson in a shoot-'em-up duel using only their gaze to neutralize targets representing harmful blue-violet light. Built with WebGL and HTML5, the experience was hosted at eyezen-challenge.com and incorporated League of Legends theme elements. High scorers were entered into a prize drawing for tickets to live Fnatic team matches.

Results

The Eyezen Challenge won Awwwards Site of the Day on April 15, 2016, with creativity scores of 9.42/10 and web technologies score of 9.33/10. It was also recognized by The FWA as a case study and received recognition from CSS Design Awards on April 8, 2016.
