Objective
To make Hong Kong's Basic Law land with teenagers, ULTD built an interactive alternative to textbook study — a mountain-climbing runner that turns constitutional knowledge into the stamina needed to reach the summit. Hong Kong government statements from the same period confirm only that outreach to young people relied on quizzes and interactive games rather than lectures; the specific brief and sponsor behind this title aren't independently confirmed.
Solution
Players sign in with Facebook or Yahoo and choose one of three real Hong Kong peaks to climb — Victoria Peak, Sunset Peak, or Tai Mo Shan. Before the climb, they answer a set of questions about the Basic Law, and each correct answer converts into stamina for the ascent. Then they take control of a young hiker running up the slope, steering her left and right and jumping — with arrow keys on desktop or swipes on mobile — to grab items and dodge animals along the way. Stamina drains with every step and every collision, and hitting zero ends the run, though three checkpoints on the route let players bank what they've collected so far. Everything gathered can later be redeemed for prizes — movie, café, bookstore, and supermarket vouchers — through a separate registration step.
- 1
The game opens on a title screen for «《基本法》網上遊戲» showing an animated running heroine, and players sign in through a Facebook or Yahoo account to begin.
- 2
A map presents three real Hong Kong peaks of rising difficulty — Victoria Peak, Sunset Peak, and Tai Mo Shan — with only the first open at the start.
- 3
Before each climb, the player answers questions about the Basic Law; correct answers convert into stamina points, which set how far up the mountain the run can go.
- 4
During the climb the heroine runs uphill automatically while the player steers her with arrow keys or swipes and taps, dodging left and right and jumping to collect route-specific loot such as bread, leaves, flowers, and stones.
- 5
Stamina drains continuously while climbing and drops further on collisions with animals; a run that runs out of stamina before the summit ends and must be restarted from the bottom.
- 6
Each route holds three checkpoints where the player can bank the loot gathered so far and choose either to keep climbing or to stop and lock in the haul.
- 7
Reaching the summit banks all the loot collected on that mountain and unlocks the next, taller peak.
- 8
Accumulated loot is redeemed for real prizes — cinema, café, bookstore, and supermarket vouchers — through a dedicated registration window; redemption is first-come-first-served across three waves running from March to May 2018, with voucher values and quantities rising each wave (HK$100 vouchers in March, HK$200 in April, HK$500 in May).
