Objective

Philips TV sought to showcase its Ambilight ambient lighting technology through an immersive digital experience tied to the award-winning Afterglow ski film. The campaign extended the film's narrative into interactive entertainment, combining brand storytelling with product demonstration to reach skiing enthusiasts and tech-savvy audiences interested in premium display technology.

Solution

Dareville created a WebGL-based 3D freeride skiing game built on the PlayCanvas engine with custom GLSL shaders. Players experience a first-person descent down a dark mountain at night, where they must collect Ambilight TV units scattered across the slope to maintain visibility and light levels while racing downward. The game mechanic directly reinforced Ambilight's core value proposition—superior light control and visual clarity. Released in February 2015, the interactive experience served as a digital extension of the Afterglow film campaign.

Results

The Afterglow Ski Game received an Awwwards Honorable Mention in March 2015. The project was a WebGL-based interactive experience created for Philips' Ambilight TV campaign.
