Objective
McLaren Racing sought to expand its brand reach into the mobile gaming audience through a strategic partnership with Free Fire, the world's most downloaded mobile battle royale game. The 'Ace the Field' collaboration aimed to introduce McLaren's Formula 1 heritage and visual identity to a younger, gaming-native demographic by embedding the brand directly into in-game experiences.
Solution
The collaboration introduced two exclusive McLaren vehicles—the MCLFF (a custom co-branded model designed with McLaren Racing's team, styled after the MCL35M race car) and the iconic McLaren P1—as drivable content across three named Free Fire maps (Bermuda, Kalahari, and Purgatory), alongside a dedicated racing track on Training Island. Players could customize their characters with McLaren-inspired driver overalls in the brand's signature papaya orange and blue racing colors through limited-time cosmetic bundles. Four vehicle skins offered varying in-game stat modifications (+32% acceleration/-32% damage reduction for the Legendary 'Helios', and other performance tiers), complemented by additional cosmetics including emotes, backpacks, and environment skins. F1 driver Lando Norris was featured throughout the campaign as the brand ambassador. Support extended beyond the game itself with promotional social media activity and offline activations. The 'Race to Ace' event (July 17–31, 2021) required players to complete in-game laps to unlock rewards, with the McLaren P1 'Mantis' skin as the grand prize.
