Objective

Ally is a fully digital bank, and its own research showed financial literacy sliding fastest among 18-34-year-olds — the exact renters and first-time savers the brand needed to reach. CMO Andrea Brimmer wanted more real human touchpoints for a bank with no branches, and the campaign's job was to turn that awareness into new deposit accounts among Gen Z and millennial players.

Solution

You get an access code through Ally's landing page or the Turnip.exchange queue, load in, and fly straight to Ally Island. From there you wander a branded theme park: pose for photos outside Little Detroit, Ally's mini headquarters, then walk over to a golf course running its own tournament or the NASCAR-themed racetrack built for driver Jimmie Johnson. Ally houses, boats and cars are scattered around the island, and actual Ally employees are walking around in character, ready to answer questions about interest rates, mortgages or currency if you talk to them. The whole visit builds toward one stop: the turnip stand, where every turnip you're carrying sells for a flat 1,000 bells, the highest buy price ever offered in the game. You cash out, browse the merch shop, and log off — the deal done, the pitch made without a single ad.

Results

Three Twitch streams with KangGaming drew 1.83 million viewers and 1.38 million views over the two-week run, generating 355 million impressions and 87% positive social sentiment; the October 23 launch stream ranked 8th-most-watched on Twitch that night. Ally's landing page pulled 125,000 visitors, and the audience spent a combined 112,000-plus hours with the brand. The campaign lifted aided brand awareness by 8%, and on the business side drove a 12% increase in net new deposits, a 124% jump in new deposit customers, and a 320% increase in account openings.

How it plays

10 steps
  1. 1

Players first learn of the island from a Twitch livestream on Ally's channel announcing the launch, then head to Ally's landing page and the third-party site Turnip.exchange to request an access code, which is required before entry.

  2. 2

Before departing, players stock up on turnips from their own island's Sunday seller, since the island itself provides none to sell.

  3. 3

Entry is gated by a queue capped at eight guests at a time, with waits running for hours; Ally manages the line and compensates players still waiting by flying to their home island and dropping bags of bells.

  4. 4

Once called forward, players redeem a Dodo Code and fly in via Dodo Airlines, but only during posted operating windows that narrow as the event's run continues.

  5. 5

Players explore an open, green campsite area — tent, hammock, campfire, workbench — greeted by costumed characters played by real Ally employees who hand out bell gifts, then wander through "Little Detroit," a district modeled on the bank's headquarters city, and stop at a viewpoint built as a photo op with an in-game camera and filter.

  6. 6

Optional attractions round out the visit: a golf course hosting a tournament, and a racetrack tied to the bank's NASCAR sponsorship where players can win real merchandise.

  7. 7

The island is dressed with branded set pieces — houses including an "Ally Dream Home," boats, cars, and merchandise displays — several of which players can walk inside.

  8. 8

Approaching staff characters triggers financial explanations on rates, real estate, and currency, delivered through conversation rather than a separate tutorial screen.

  9. 9

The core transaction happens at a central plaza: a public price board posts a fixed turnip rate, and players sell their whole stock for a guaranteed 1,000 bells apiece — many times a typical payout — walking away with a windfall.

  10. 10

Players who skip the queue can visit via a published Dream Code while asleep, touring the full island but without the turnip trade; mid-run, Ally also stages a "Bell-Out" giveaway of bulk bells to random visitors, before the island and all access close for good on a final day.
