Objective
20th Century Fox created an immersive branded experience to promote the Prometheus film (released June 2012), engaging audiences by inviting them to test their fitness for the movie's fictional USCSS Prometheus mission. The interactive HTML5 game served as a viral marketing tool to build hype and deepen fan engagement with the film's sci-fi narrative.
Solution
The Training Center was an HTML5 interactive experience hosted on the official Prometheus website where players underwent a series of physical and cognitive assessments to qualify for fictional crew membership. The game featured three test categories: physical challenges (an endless-treadmill agility course avoiding obstacles, and a microgravity balance test tracking moving targets), cognitive assessments (film knowledge trivia, 3D pattern recognition, and puzzle-sorting challenges), and live-action video sequences. An AI character named Weyland Android Andrea Bishop guided players through the assessment facility. The project was developed by Ignition Creative with 3D game development by Plain Concepts, in collaboration with Microsoft's Internet Explorer team.
Results
The Training Center won FWA Site of the Day and Awwwards Site of the Day in 2012, received Cannes Lions Gold for Branded Content & Entertainment (2013), and earned Webby Awards finalist and honoree recognition.
